Are you an indie author looking for author services to ease your own workload so you can concentrate on the most important task: writing? Skye offers the following author services to indie authors:

  • formatting
  • proofreading
  • transcription (audio files to text)

Formatting

In order to publish your book, it needs to be formatted. Whether for ebook, paperback or both. Formatting refers to the way your paragraphs, lines, text, and images all look visually for readers.

The cost of formatting is as follows:

  • eBook: 75.00 USD + tax
  • eBook + Paperback: 90.00 USD + tax
  • Custom Chapter Heading: 45.00 USD + tax (per image—discount with multiples of 5)
  • Custom Scene Break: 30.00 USD + tax (per image—discount with multiples of 5)

Please note, custom chapter headings and scene breaks must be discussed prior to make sure your desired design is within my capabilities. If it is not, I will recommend another artist I think would be more appropriate.

 

To create your ebook files, the following information is necessary:

  • finalized DOC/DOCX file (must be ready for publication, not still in editing)
  • dedication (if applicable)
  • author bio (if applicable)
  • author image (if applicable)
  • acknowledgements (if applicable)
  • also by list with links (if applicable)
  • ebook cover (longest side must be 2560)
  • where you’re planning to publish (Amazon, B&N, Kobo, etc)

Please note, all images sent must be a minimum of 300 DPI.

For paperback (if applicable), the only additional information I’d need is:

  • desired trim size (if applicable)

Formatting services offers files for the following:

  • Kindle
  • Apple
  • Nook
  • Kobo
  • Google
  • Generic EPUB
  • Print (PDF)

Here are examples of formatted works. Among the examples are images of those for books coming in 2020. More examples will be added to the gallery as they are completed.

Skye worked with two different small presses on various formatting projects since 2013, completed all her past formatting projects, and is in the process of working with a third on a charity anthology.

Mock-up designs for simple formatting sent to the author within 24 hours of payment made in full. Once accepted, requested files are sent to the author within another 48 hours. Full turn-around time can be as minimum as 72 hours.

Transcription

Do you have audio files you’d like seen turned into text documents? Or maybe a YouTube video you’d like closed captioning for? S.D. Hegyes offers to listen and transcribe your audio files for you.

Transcription services cost USD $1.25 per minute of the audio file.

This service offers the final file formats for completed transcription of audio files:

  • DOC/DOCX file

Payment plans are available for transcription services.

Transcription is a new process for Skye, but she has been doing dictation off and on for two years now. It’s not the same process, but it does require a similar amount of patience, diligence, and listening to the same words multiple times in order to complete a project.

Proofreading

One of the final steps before publication in the editing process. This follows after all the developmental and line edits. Proofreading does not check for story inconsistencies or plot holes. A proofreader checks for the following errors that may have been missed during editing rounds:

  • grammar mistakes
  • spelling mistakes
  • punctuation errors
  • word choice errors
  • style mistakes

Proofreading does not add or delete content from your manuscript. It is only meant to polish what already exists.
