Long Time No See!

It’s been a long time since I’ve sent out a newsletter… A really long time… In the meantime, I’ve been busy packing and moving (my first cross-country move as an adult) from North Carolina to Montana, writing a short story for a paranormal romance anthology, and trying not to lost any and all of my sanity along the way.

I’ll keep this update short and sweet. Mostly, I wanted to let you know I was alive, and I’m still working on various things.

Projects!

Currently, I’m trying to narrow my focus on only a couple of projects at a time, but I also have a lot of projects sitting in limbo waiting for word from various places about whether they’ll be published or not and (if so) when.

One of the groups I’m in on Facebook opened submissions for a paranormal romance anthology. My story, “Presumed Dead” was accepted and now Summer Solstice Seduction will be coming out June 2021. I’m excited about this release, not going to lie.

Summer Solstice Seduction: A Paranormal Romance Anthology

On the shortest night of the year, fae come out to play, vampires don’t have much time, and werewolves howl at a full moon.

The summer solstice brings out witches, demons, vampires, shifters, and supernatural creatures in a night of magic and mayhem. There are spells that can only be cast or curses can only be broken on this one, enchanted night.

If you dare, follow the fae down a magical path but beware! You may get forever lost. Beyond supernatural hijinx, there’s seduction around every corner…

Eleven brand new, paranormal romances from both established authors and exciting new talent in this single volume.

S.D. Hegyes NOTE: This anthology is no longer available, but I will self-publish the short story in due time! If you’re interested, you know what to do… SUBSCRIBE!

QUARANTINED WITH ANTHOLOGY

You may remember, I was invited to join this anthology last July. There’s still stories in various stages of editing. I believe my own story had five drafts in all. There is no timeline on the anthology’s publication date yet, but as soon as I know, I’ll let you know as well.

DAMNED AND DANGEROUS QUARTET

I should be focusing on this series. I wanted to finish publishing it by the anniversary of the first book, but I don’t think that’s going to happen. I have two books to re-write, and I’m plodding through the first one, Damned and Deadly, slowly.

If you’re interested though, the first two books are available on Kindle Unlimited, which means you can read them for free. Check out  Damned and Desolate as well as Damned and Dangerous on Amazon today.

FUR, TEETH, AND CLAWS

Don’t think I’ve forgotten all the short stories I promised you. Once I have internet again, one of the first things I’ll be tackling again is this project. I need to finish uploading stories to my website and make them accessible to you.

QSF Flash Fiction Contest

I submitted a short 300-word flash fiction piece to a contest in March. It’s an LGBT+ story that has a Beauty and the Beast theme. The theme was unintentional, but I won’t lie, I love it.

The contest ran from March 1 to May 1, but I haven’t heard back on where my piece stood among the other contestants. There’s three top prizes and up to 120 entries will be used to create an anthology. Read more about the flash fiction contest rules to see why I’m so excited about this.

Amazon is introducing a new program in June called Kindle Vella.

Amazon is introducing a new program in June called Kindle Vella. From what I’ve read and seen, it works similar to both WebToons and Wattpad. Authors can post a single chapter at a time on a schedule. Readers can read the first chapter for free and then use tokens to read future chapters.

I’m debating on trying it. I have a couple projects I think would work with it. Have you heard about Kindle Vella? What are your thoughts on it?
